How to pack your bike for shipping

    Introducing: The buycycle Box!

Congratulations! You have sold your bike on buycycle, our packing material has just arrived and we have good news for you: Packing and shipping your bike is as easy as creating your listing and selling your bike with our new buycycle box. You can still find detailed instructions in this blog post and in Nic's YouTube video:

The very first thing you should do is check the folded packing material for completeness. You should have received

    • the large buycycle carton
    • 1 smaller box for pedals/other components (Accessory Box)
    • 2 cardboard squares for your front wheel
    • 1 rectangular cardboard box with many holes in it
    • 1 rectangular cardboard box with a slit in the middle and many fold lines
    • 1 cardboard box that looks like a double-sided arrow

Now that you know everything is there, you can get started.

    1. Off to the cardboard box.

    1. Start by setting up the large buycycle box and the smaller box. Do this by folding them apart, pressing the two ends in toward the center on each side, and then securing the finished cardboard bottom with some parcel tape.

    2. Grab the part with the many holes and fold the upper end, where both halves of the perforated cardboard are still connected, down once. Now fold the cardboard once to the side, cut it in half like this and you can now fold it until it looks like an accordion or a fan. Fold the two small ends without holes outward for support. This fanned part will later support and protect your fork in the box.

    4. Now remains the rectangular cardboard with the many fold lines and the slit in the middle. On the two widths, fold the narrow ends up once vertically and then the small wings at the ends of this part inward toward the center of the cardboard. Now grab the lengths, fold them up once as well, and then fold them over the corners of the widths until the lengths snap into the small slots in the "bottom" of the box. Now you have the "walls" of your guard. Turn this construction over once, press the slit in the middle and this cardboard box is also finished!

    2. Off to the bike.

    5. Now it goes to your bike. Unscrew the pedals the front wheel and set your handlebar to the lowest position. In addition, turn it all the way to the side so that it is parallel to the frame and your bike is as narrow as possible.

    6. Grab your front wheel, clamp it between your legs and tape the square boxes to its two sides.

    7. Now clamp between the fork of your bike the accordion part and attach this cardboard component with the axle through one of the pre-punched holes.

    8. Place your triangular rear wheel support in one corner of the box and you are ready to pack your bike into the box.

    3. Off to the buycycle box.

    9. Take your bike including the fork guard and place it in the box so that the rear wheel is in the triangular support and the fork guard rests completely on the bottom of the buycycle box.

    10. Place your front wheel next to the frame in the box, preferably on the side where the gear shift is not located.

    11. Now pack the pedals and other components (e.g. a Garmin-bracket or whatever else you unscrewed) into the small box, tape it closed and put it into the big box on the rear wheel.

    12. Check again to make sure you haven't forgotten anything.

    13. If not, the protective box still comes on top of the bike, you stick the big buycycle-Box and tadaaa!

    4. Off we go.

    14. One last ciao and our shipping partner can pick up your bike ready packed and bring it to its new home!

Nic's video explains all these steps in more detail. If you still have questions, you can always contact our buycycle-support and we will help you with words and deeds. We wish you: Happy packing, happy cycling!
